Bleach and tones are one of those show stopping services that turn heads wherever they go. From all over platinum to fantasy colors, a good ‘ole bleach and tone will take your look to whole new heights. One of our favorite Los Angeles colorists, Jessica Gonzalez, knows how to create a vibe. Her influencer clientele go to her for balayage, killer formulas, and bleach and tones, lucky for us we got to sit in on one of her services last week to learn some of her tips and tricks!
Though a bleach and tone on short hair may seem simple, Jess cautions that extra care must be provided! Some would assume bleach can just go all over the hair and process, however, small sections are essential to prevent spotty application. This means going in with a sectioning brush and painting on tiny sections of the hair one by one.
Jessica’s formulated with Redken Flashlift + 25 volume + OLAPLEX No.1 for her virgin haired client. She also added some sweet and low to the mixture to ease any irritation the bleach could cause to the scalp. Though some may assume healthy virgin hair doesn’t need the help of OLAPLEX, we beg to differ! Healthy hair needs repair just as much as processed hair, the only advantage it has is usually it’s starting point isn’t as damaged. OLAPLEX is there to insure that the healthy hair stays healthy. If one were to apply highlights or other chemical services on a head of virgin hair, the condition, texture, and overall integrity would change, making OLAPLEX essential to protect and repair virgin hair.
If this service were on already processed hair, Jessica’s advice would be to avoid overlapping as to not over lift already processed ends. It’s always wise, even with the use of OLAPLEX, to use your best judgement when it comes to keeping the hair’s integrity front and center! To tone, Jessica used Dialight 1/2 clear 10.12 with a big inch of 9.01 and 6 volume. Remember, using OLAPLEX No.2 is not optional! Imagine No.1 fighting against all the chemicals attempting to cause damage to hair, and No.2 attempting to rebuild all the bonds in the hair without any chemicals fighting against it.
To style, use OLAPLEX No.6 Bond Smoother with some drops of OLAPLEX No.7 Bonding Oil for a frizz-free, smooth, shiny look that will continue OLAPLEX’S Bond Multiplying benefits throughout the day!
